Bidhata KC

Bidhata KC is a visual artist from Nepal whose work delves into identity, material culture, and the dynamic relationship between tradition and modernity. Her art examine existence in its many dimensions—individual, societal, and cultural—exploring how native traditions, societal norms, and values shape personal identity and, in turn, how individual lives contribute to the collective cultural narrative.

By exploring Nepal’s rich traditions, Bidhata’s work bridges the past and present, offering insights into contemporary realities. Her creations capture moments of cultural dialogue, weaving visual narratives that are both deeply personal and universally resonant. Through her art, she invites viewers to contemplate how identity is shaped by the cultural and societal environments we navigate.

Bidhata’s practice encourages a reimagining of the past—not as a static relic, but as a vibrant, living force that shapes our understanding of the present and future. By engaging with themes that transcend time and geography, her work opens a space for conversations on the coexistence of old and new, tradition and progress, and the essence of existence itself. Her practice integrates painting, photography, installation, printmaking, and mixed media to create works that resonate deeply.

In 2011, her piece ‘Marginalized Identity’ secured the Special Mention Award at the National Fine Art Exhibition in Nepal. She represented the Nepal Art Council at the India Art Fair in 2016 and was a commissioned artist for the Kathmandu Triennale 2017. Recognitions include the 2018 ‘Artist of the Year, 100 Most Influential Women of Nepal’ and the ‘Australian Himalayan Foundation Art Award.’ In 2022, she was selected for the ‘Social Change Through Art’ program under the International Visitor Leadership Program in the US. With seven solo exhibitions, Bidhata KC’s art has been showcased in multiple festivals and exhibitions nationally and internationally.
