Amshad Sunuwar

Amshad Sunuwar (b. 1993, Ramechhap) is a visual artist based in Kathmandu. His work interrogates cultural erosion and identity, stemming from his upbringing in a Christian family distanced from his Sunuwar-Koyu Rai heritage. His practice seeks reconnections and recollections with his community and with the soil and nature with which it lives. His research involves remembering and sharing the knowledge and endangered rituals of his community with his elders. Building and upholding this knowledge and way of being, he creates mixed-media art that questions the loss of language, traditional ecological wisdom, and reciprocal relationships with nature.
